Google Map Activity

I created a Google Map taking my students and their parents from our school to the park for a fun day field trip. For kindergarten age students, I would think that a map such as this would be used more for interacting with parents then for use with students. Having google maps set up and available for providing directions for parents for field trips could be beneficial.
This map could also be elaborated with a few landmarks for the students to look for during their walk to the park. The map could be reviewed prior to leaving for the trip and then the students could look for the landmarks as they made the journey from school to the park.

60 second science

Searching for educational podcasts, I found the "60 Second Science" podcasts from Scientific American to be interesting. Scholastic included this podcast in an article "10 Podcasts for Teachers and Kids". The podcasts cover a variety of topics from "Eye Movements Do Not Reveal Lying" to "Stand Up Now to Stick Around Later". The podcasts are audio only, but quick, entertaining, and informational. The subject matter is a bit above the level I teach, but it would be great for upper elementary, middle, or high school students.
